Tarot - Page of Swords (First Posted Nov. 30, 2010)

Not yet overly identified with her gender, the Page of Swords (who dwells in the Kingdom of  Air and also, characteristically and to some degree, in each one of us) feels free to enjoy the masculine qualities she both possesses and admires.  She loves to feel courageous, bold and competent.

Her mind is still somewhat unschooled and immature yet it is also swift and keen in a debate or argument.  She thrives on challenges.  Yet, she knows she must grow up and become a queen one day and this also thrills her being.  To be like her mother and rule with wisdom and compassion is what she secretly (and ultimately) aspires to.

She loves the feeling of the wind in her hair and the sun on her shoulders.  She loves the feeling of her responsive, young body striding over the earth.  She also hears the call of the birds with every fiber of her being.  Hidden beneath her colourful tunic with its bright yellow sleeves is the white undershirt of her virginity.  Her red boots speak of her passion and her love of motion.  She enjoys being fleet of foot and imagines herself a messenger carrying thoughts, words and ideas to the four corners of the earth.

Yet, she also imagines herself in a fine silk frock exchanging brilliant repartee at a fabulous ball with a handsome, young suitor.  She stands of the cusp of her womanhood and sees both her past as a non-gendered, free-roaming agent and her future as a queen-in-the-making.  She looks to the Gods for the inner strength she needs to be queen someday.

She is high-minded and looks for ways to elevate her thoughts above those of whom she will be responsible for some day as part of her Kingdom of Air.  She always looks for ways to sharpen her mind and her thinking.  She is graceful of body and swift of mind.  With her hair blowing in the wind she reveals her gender without surrendering her option of still running free in gender disguising garb.

She is ready to take on the world.

PLEASE NOTE:  This interpretation is based purely on the feelings I experience when I  focus on, and merge with, the images in the card combined with how I understand the Minor Arcana of the Rider-Waite deck dovetails with the Tree of Life in the Qabalah (as taught by Wald and Ruth Ann Amberstone, co-founders of The Tarot School in New York City, NY).
