New Rubber Boots (First Posted Mar. 28, 2011)

New Rubber Boots

When she looked ahead a week on her calendar she saw two notations.  The first reminded her that her best friend was due to arrive home from Canmore, Alberta where she had been nursing her brother’s remarried widow back to health after major surgery.

The second reminded her to buy a pair of new rubber boots because early spring had arrived.  This means she and her best friend will be shucking off their snowshoes and donning the type of footwear needed to keep them comfortable and dry in the thawing condition of the forest and the meadows where they adventure twice a week  (outings which make them feel like the pair of children they once were meandering through the beautiful, rural area where they grew up together).

Ahhhh ……… bliss ………………!!!!!

She knew exactly the type of new rubber boots she was looking for.  She did NOT want the knee high, psychedelic coloured, fashionable ones she was seeing on the downtown sidewalks these days.  Instead, she was imagining an ankle high pair designed like a hiking boot - something that laced up and fit her feet well for long stretches of walking across irregular and boggy terrain.

It took her a while to track down the new rubber boots she was dreaming of but, eventually, she spotted them displayed in the large window of a shoe store downtown – the one known for the high and lasting quality of its merchandise.  Perfect!  And, wouldn’t you know? As good fortune would have it - they were!

Their sturdy, overall construction is perfect for the rough ground she will be covering.  Their snug, well-designed interior is perfect for allowing her feet to be comfortable while walking her to, and through, the places which lift her spirit.  Their dark, hunter green toes and soles combined with the rich mustard yellow of their uppers is the perfect colour combination to make her feel young and playful.

All in all, her new rubber boots are downright perfect for inspiring her to get outdoors; to depart from the beaten path; to splash across puddles; to plough through mud; to drink in fresh air; to raise her face to the sky;  to rest on mossy logs; to listen to the birds; to notice colour returning all around her and -  best of all  – to share these wonderful things with someone who is equally at home in the outdoors and who enjoys their adventures every bit as much as she does.

Ahhhh ……… bliss ………………!!!!!
